Stitching & Sewing

Grades: 2- 5

Time: 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Location: Blue Oak School (1436 Polk St, Napa CA 94559)

Date: Mondays - 1/13, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/24, 3/3. 3/10, 3/17 (NO CLASS ON 1/20 OR 2/17) 

Description: In this class students will experience different types of sewing, such as sewing clothing, home items, quilted items, or general crafting type things. Students will have the opportunity to create large items of their choosing such as: pajama bottoms, pajama shorts, a tote bag. Left over and scrap fabrics from projects will be used to make smaller items like a scrunchie, pencil bag, fabric basket, key fob holder, or oven mit.

Here are the projects that will be offered in the winter sewing session and the materials needed for each project.

Winter Projects: 

1. PJ bottoms: 2.5 yards cotton or fleece fabric

2. Blanket that folds into a pillow: 1 yard of fleece fabric and 1/4 yard fleece fabric for the pillow piece

3. Mittens:  1/3 yard fleece fabric

4. Knit hat: 1/3 yard fleece fabric1/2 yard or 2 Fat Quarters of cotton fabric

5. Scarf with pockets:  1 yard of fleece fabric1/4 yard fabric or 1 Fat Quarter of cotton fabric

6. Ear warmer headband: 1/4 yard fleece fabric

7. Valentines fabric envelope:  1 yard of cotton fabric or 2 fat quarters cotton fabric

There will also several small projects that require scraps of cotton fabric that will be available to make. :)

How much each student will finish is individual to the student. 

(Sewing kit is provided my instructor)

STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN FABRIC.

Allowing participants to shop and choose their own fabric, not only empowers them, but also lets them take ownerhip of their creation from start to finish. 

Please be sure to only purchase the fabric suggested for each project, otherwise the fabric will either not work or make the project more difficult.
