Art with Le Petit Atelier

Description: Art Classes offered by Le Petit Atelier are not just about craft and play, but an in-depth hands-on learning experience for children interested in the art world! Art history and curation are at the foundation of these classes teaching children about different artistic movements, how to plan longer term projects, and what representing yourself in a gallery-like exposition may look like. 

At the beginning of each lesson we will observe a specific piece and the respective artist chosen in advance by the instructor, Ashlyn. These pieces range from the beginning of human existence to contemporary artwork. This serves as a warm up for the children to think with their art minds. We also put the art piece into a virtual kaleidoscope which is an interactive activity the children always love! The kaleidoscope helps highlight different things in a painting such as composition or color based contrast which we discuss in class.  

The projects students will work on in these classes vary in medium and size. Some examples of material we will cover: 

• metal embossing and the bronze age,

•  acrylic painting on large scale canvas (planning your painting beforehand, sketching), 

• clay sculpting

• Composition

• Color theory
