Beginner Rock Band

Grades: 3rd - 8th

Date: Thursdays - 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12, 12/19

Description: This performance group will meet for a 15 CLASS SESSION, once a week on Thursdays aftter school. Occasional extra rehearsals will be schedueled prior to performances.

This enrichment program is for young minds interested in learning how to play in a rock band. We will learn basic teamwork techniques and how to put a song together and create individual arrangements and prepare for a spring performance. All instruments are welcome with basic core instruments being the focus: drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals. However, all instruments are welcome including horns, reeds and brass!

Education Benefits: 

1. Learning basic instrument skills and musician teamwork building skills

2. Learning basic music theory and beginning song construction.

3. Learning how to practice and self teach as well as performance preperation.

Objectives:

1. The main objective is to have fun learning how to play in a rock band and create song arrangements via group collaboration.

2. Learning how to prepare for and execute a spring performance.

3. To better prepare our Blue Oak students for upper school rock bands and music program offerings.

What's Needed: A great attitude and a passion for music. An instrument that students own or has regular access to. A willingness to learn to be open to different types of rock and world music. We will meet every Thursday afternoon to commence our journey through music, passion for performin, and performing and song writting. We will start with one begining song to learn and slowly build a repertoirethat will be performed in the spring forthe entire school. 

Peformances: Performing opportunities will inlude occasional Community Meetings (dates to be determined), Acorns to A-Chords annual music performance in January (dates to be determined), and possiblee Napa community events.
